This 50-year old results from a blend of wines from: 30% of extra dry Verdelho from the 1950s MEF collection; 48% of 1978 Boal, aged in canteiro in Barbeito’s warehouses; 15% of old Malvasia adding structure, acidity and more sugar to the blend; 7% of another very old Malvasia which diluted the concentration without significantly altering the balance between acidity and sugar. In November 2022, 555 individually numbered units were bottled.
Amber colour, Lush, delicate, polished and fresh bouquet. Tropical notes, coconut, dates, toffee, apricot, hazelnut, salted caramel, slight waxiness and balsamic. The sweet aromas give way to an unmatched freshness on the palate. Almost explosive citrus flavor, well-defined robust acidity, tannic, persistent dryness, showing character and grit. Finesse in the huge finish. Excellent as a digestif and/or with a cigar.
